How Strategic Is Your Social Profile?

Posted by Susan Davis on 21-Nov-2018 10:03:00

Sometimes I wonder how often professional people stop and reflect on the power of their LinkedIn page and how their image and commentary are perceived by their network.

Do you use LinkedIn often, occasionally or not at all?

LinkedIn isn't only a digital version of your resume anymore, in fact it's now more widely used for applying for jobs, recruiters finding you for roles, networking, doing business and becoming an authority in your profession.

Having a solid strategy for how you use LinkedIn can certainly ensure you set yourself apart from others.

Consider some of the times you may re-think having a look at your LinkedIn profile and ensuring it matches up with your professional image and goals.

  • Are you about to job hunt or reach out to a recruiter or to a Company you'd like to work for?
  • Are you considering a work promotion?
  • Does your Company have a link to your LinkedIn profile on their website?
  • Are you looking to create a business profile vs your personal one?
  • Are you considering joining a Board of Directors and want a profile that reflects this?
  • You want to dial up Brand YOU
  • You want to become known as an expert in your area of expertise
  • You want to actively grow your network (and business)

Applying for a job? A 12 step guide and the science behind getting it right.

Posted by Gordon Scott on 15-Jun-2017 13:15:00

As a professional in the education industry, it staggers me to observe how many students tend to walk off campus for the last time with no real idea about how to apply for a job.

I think many students tend to leave this process out of their minds while they focus on achieving the best academic results they can. The students with the highest academic record tend to assume they will be chosen for exclusive graduate positions. This may be true to a certain extent, but consider for a moment what graduate employers will be looking for: are they just interested in academic excellence? Will an A grade student necessarily be an ideal personality fit with their employer? Will the ‘brainiac’ necessarily be able to become an immediate part of a sales team?

And what about the other 95% of graduates who have not enjoyed academic excellence but have a perfectly decent grade point average to show for themselves? How will they stack up against employer expectations?

The truth is that every graduate is going to be judged on a combination of their soft skills, personality type, professional knowledge and ability to be a good fit to the organisation. The key here for every graduate is to embark on a journey of self-awareness that will allow them to better present themselves to an employer in a way that can convince the employer they are the best suited person for their organisation. Students who have an existing job or internship experience AND KNOW HOW TO TRANSLATE THIS INTO THEIR JOB APPLICATION are going to have an edge over other graduates.

Recent statistics about Facebook has its active monthly users at 1.71 billion.  WOW, that's incredible! 3 things I think are fantastic about LinkedIn

Posted by Annabel Sullivan on 15-Sep-2016 15:00:00

I only joined Facebook last year but I embraced LinkedIn in 2009.  I joined it around the time Jeff Weiner became CEO and it had 46 Million users compared to the 450 Million users it has today.  So why did I embrace LinkedIn well before I joined Facebook?  I liked that its premise was a professional networking platform and it provided a way to stay connected and informed.

Over the last 2-years I've used LinkedIn more than ever, especially considering our business, Strategic Social Profiles focuses on creating social media profiles and LinkedIn is a key platform we utilise.  I'd set a client up on LinkedIn and they were keen to know how to make the most of their newly created profile.  So I provided them with an introduction to LinkedIn, let's call it a tailored LinkedIn 101 session.
